Boria Sax

During production, we filmed an interview with Boria Sax near Central Park in New York City. He is an author, writer, and lecturer and lectures at Mercy University and the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in New York. His work focuses on the relationships between humans and the natural worlds throughout history, with a large emphasis on birds. Some of his writings include “Avian Illuminations: a cultural history of birds”, “City of Ravens“, and “Enchanted Forests: the poetic construction of a world before time“.

Boria also allowed us to film on his family’s 75-acre forest about a 2 hour drive north of New York City near New Paltz, New York. Amidst the trees lie an intimate relationship with the natural world as evidence of human development fades away into mystery as the centuries go by. He was eager to share some of his more poetic works from his book “The Raven and the Sun“ and gave readings under the mottled shade of trees or on a moss-covered log by the creek. Some were musings about life, death, and the passage of time. Others were about times past and millennia that have always been under the watchful and intelligent eye of the raven.
