Written Statement:

Braeden is a filmmaker and artist whose interests are guided by the relationships between people, the sciences, and their impact on and interactions with the natural world around them. His current works include documenting the significance of the common raven (Corvus corax) as a variety of subjects paint a picture of a highly intelligent species long deemed to be a trickster, omen of death, and harboring the secrets of creation and destruction. His works also explore the complexities of a highly politicized debate over the ownership of dinosaur fossils and the disparity between commercial, private, academic, and legal interests. With an emphasis on observational and vérité styles, Braeden’s work explores the realms between scientific inquiry and public understanding covering a range of topics.

With nearly a decade of professional experience in science, education, and filmmaking, he brings an interdisciplinary approach to education and research to explore how stories are constructed, how audiences interpret information, and how creative approaches to storytelling and instruction can disseminate complex ideas.
